Hey, I’m Ruby!
I’m currently 38, I was born on Christmas Island, my heritage is Malaysian/Chinese and I’m recently engaged. I own a small business called Polekadot and teaching humans pole dancing is my full time thing!

How did you get started in dance, and were there any specific moments or people that inspired you to pursue it professionally?
I don’t have a dance background at all, I actually didn’t want to start pole dancing but a friend asked me to come to a trial class with her and I instantly was hooked and I’ve never looked back ever since, 1 even quit a 6 digit paying office job for a career in pole dancing (big risk I know. My Asian mum did not approve of this). I loved it so much I remember doing 5 classes a week as a student, from there I quickly moved up the levels and was asked to become an instructor which at the time I was shook but excited for the future! I found everyone inspiring in a way, I used to always arrive to class early and sit in the change room and watch the class beforehand (I have vivid memories of Eryn who was a student at the time but instructor now)
Name some muses that keep you motivated — not specifically dancers.
All the Australian Pole Icons plus Sasha Meow, Kira Noire, Daria Che, Vika K, Pole Kitten, Estefania and Daphne Lux who I’ve done Indi Pole Retreat Workshops with!
What does a usual day look like for you when you’re dancing?
Golly gosh! I teach and coach 7 days a week so it’s pretty hectic and non stop, I’m in completely honest it’s pre order uber eats for coffee, breakfast, lunch and if it’s a long day a snack too (I’ve been trying to be better with this of late and doing meal preps and home coffees etc. Then I’m at the studio anywhere from 4 - 12 hours teaching/coaching/choreographing/admin. I always finish the day feeling both physically and mentally (on some days emotionally) challenged however I feel very fulfilled as I’m making a difference to people’s lives. Then home late for a healthy sit down dinner with my Amore and after that I retreat to the loft where Polekadot HQ is to tend to my business <3
Can you share a unique or memorable moment you’ve had whilst dancing?
I have many, most are all stage related… winning MPDWA 2013/2021 (because I never expect to ever win) successfully getting a spatchcock on stage and taking both hands off I felt like I was flying, performing in Pole Icon with my fiance Nevi the first year then as a trio the years after with my besties London and Mel Grace.
How do you maintain your energy and fitness while travelling? Do you have any go-to routines or meals?
Energy is great on holidays because I actually sleep, fitness is easy because I have Nevi who needs to train daily so whether I like it or not we’ll be at a gym each day whilst on holidays. I love food so I eat anything and everything! Food is life!
What are some of the most exciting or rewarding projects you’ve worked on in your career so far?
Performing in Perth Fringe Festival on a fly pole, our award winning and sell out show Sinsuality has been together for a decade!
Have you had the opportunity to work with any artists or choreographers who have significantly impacted your career?
I was asked to perform with Snoop Dogg on his Perth leg of his Australian Tour
Can you share any particularly challenging or gratifying performances or choreography you’ve been involved with?
Pole dancing is hard so doing it together with London made me realise even though I’m smaller I had to be the base hahaha AND then on top of that we became an iconic trio with Mel Grace and let me tell you, 3 girls and 1 pole is chore and a half but we make it work and have lots of laughs with it!
What are you currently working on or planning for the future?
Producing in house Showpony’s for our students to have a go at performing, prepping for Perth Fringe Festival 2026, soon I’ll be training on a new apparatus no one knows about, lots of upcoming gigs I’ve been booked for, my first fly pole photo shoot and Exotic Generation in Nov - WOW now you made me write it all down this really is a lot hahaha
Do you have any upcoming performances or collaborations that you’re excited about?
YES! All the fly pole gigs, some secret training I can’t tell you about right now and of late filming for CXIX hehe
How do you stay motivated and inspired when working on new projects or routines?
I’ve lost my polejo maybe 2 times in 19 years because honestly inspiration in endless and everywhere… my students inspire me the most, they are the fuel to my fire, I basically do anything for them because they are all just so beautiful and they make my life very wholesome <3
What are some of your favourite dancewear or accessories that you can’t live without?
Love anything sexy, see through and I’m a sucker for anything bling! But also I love being warm and comfy and loose fitting clothes is my preferred :)
Which CXIX garments that you love/find especially useful or comfortable for dancing?
Currently living in my rainbow rhinestone tracksuit and HOAH front clasp bikini tops are my saving grace because ain’t no body got time to deal with back clips and always in a cheeky cut or G because anything bigger just feels like a diaper on me.
Do you have any essential items you always bring with you when travelling or on tour?
Peanut ball, my LV perfume and bikinis!
